Your trees live on a limited budget
Trees are like most of us, they live on a budget. They have limited resources and food storage. They have to limit how much energy or food to allocate to root production, branch, limb and stem growth, as well as fighting off insects, funguses and diseases. As you can imagine trees that are stressed have less energy to allocate making them a greater risk to decline and death. Growth inhibitors are a perfect treatment to help stressed and healthy trees better allocate these resources. Growth inhibitors block the production of gibberellins which are growth hormones that stimulate cell elongation and cause plants to grow taller. By doing this it allows the trees to take away resources allocated for growth and use them in other, more pressing areas of need. This allows trees to thicken fibrous roots allowing more uptake of nutrients. It allows more energy to be used to fight off diseases and pests. It also allows the plant to thicken its’ leaves, allowing for more efficient energy production.
